Plain Jane

     A piece of propaganda including myself I thought to include something currently relevant and important in the country. When looking through examples of propaganda posters the ones that caught my eye were those about speech and involving the government, particularly those including a hand covering the mouth of the main subject. I found this to be a significant image and pose to represent being silenced.      Rather than taking a new picture for the assignment I used a photo from the fourth of July in a USA hat and used images of hands in order to cover my mouth and take away the hat. These were representative of being silenced and where exactly I was being silenced.   When beginning my work to create a logo that accurately represents myself in some way I started off with my initials, things I like, and my nickname. I ended up choosing the dancer because of its elegance and the strong influence it had on my life growing up. From ages three to 14 I spent the entire year in ballet classes. Ultimately, I believe this has shaped my personality, well being, and overall the way I am. I can imagine the simple design as a watermark or logo on future works of art or for self branding. Initially I wanted to just make a light pink dancer, it accurately goes with the symbol if you look at the general colors in ballet, but the logo needed a more important meaning. Green is a natural earthy color. It can represent new beginnings and growth, as well as renewal and abundance. Gray is clean and formal but lighter and less intense than black.      In order to create a calligramme I used a letter written to myself 20 years in the future. Throughout the letter I ask myself how I’ve changed over time, where my career path takes me, and have a consistent theme of health and wellness questioning. I’m incredibly interested in health and wellness between physical movement and the nutritional aspect of it. I mention how currently I wear pink almost every day and ask about the possibility of becoming a yoga instructor instead of going into a more corporate position. These two things are the reasoning behind the image I created of the silhouette of a girl with a big ponytail.        When creating the image, I chose a simple silhouette because I grew up cheerleading so that was something I did every day and was a simple representation of my appearance.     First, I liked how the video mentions all of the different commands you can perform just with your keyboard. I think that the circle selection tool is very cool to be able to move multiple points and their direction and angles at once. Creating custom shapes and having them appear as desired is a concern I have but should be easy to alter by stretching the shape and moving points or sides of it. I think the shape builder tool will be helpful when making designs or shapes. I think that the pen tool will be extremely useful either making rounded or sharp shapes and using direct selection to manipulate the shape to the desired appearance.      After watching a second tutorial , I realized how the pen tool is going to be incredibly useful in the class, but seems very touchy and difficult to get used to.      Hello, my name is Jane Scialdone but my friends call me Janie. I am from Rochester, New York and moved to Tampa this January. Previously, I attended University at Buffalo before transferring to The University of Tampa. I spend a great deal of time with friends, outside, and mostly at the gym. When being outdoors isn't an option I love writing, cooking, and baking. Overall I pretty much enjoy doing anything with friends or family. Lastly my favorite sport is hockey and while my favorite team is the Islanders, I go to plenty of Lightning games.      I know that I definitely have had accomplishments and failures but they aren't coming to mind at the moment.
